How it Works
Hearing care is like any other rehabilitative journey. After your comprehensive hearing evaluation and selecting the right hearing aids for your needs, the audiologist will set the hearing aids to a comfortable level for you to acclimatize to your new sound output. This is usually below your prescription and that is okay. The brain needs time to adjust to the new sound and we want to respect that process.
Initial Fitting
Hearing aids are programmed and set to a comfortable starting level based on your evaluation.
Follow-Up Adjustments
2-3 visits in the first 30 days to fine-tune settings and reach your prescription targets.
Real-Ear Verification
Objective measurement of sound output in your ear canal to confirm optimal amplification.
Ongoing Optimization
Continued support and adjustments to keep your hearing aids performing at their best.
You will see the audiologist 2-3 times in the first 30 days. During these visits, adjustments will be made to suit your needs and get you to your prescription targets. This is part of our commitment to ensuring you experience all the benefits of properly fitted hearing aids.
Once you have reached your prescription targets, Real-Ear Measurements (REM) will be performed. This testing is an important component of the hearing aid fitting process and can provide crucial information for optimizing hearing aid performance and individualizing the fitting to your specific needs.
REM allows for objective measurement and verification of the actual sound output produced by the hearing aids in your ear canal. It ensures that the hearing aids are delivering the appropriate amplification levels based on your specific hearing loss and prescription.
Properly fitted hearing aids through REM testing can improve speech understanding, sound quality, and overall satisfaction with the hearing aid performance. It enhances your ability to hear and communicate effectively in various listening environments.
At Golden Ears Audiology Lakeway, we guarantee that your hearing aids are optimized for your listening needs and hearing loss, as directed by the hearing aid manufacturer and evidence-based national standards. We also provide ongoing maintenance and repair services to ensure your hearing aids continue performing at their best.
Should you not be happy with your hearing aids towards the end of your trial period, speak to your audiologist regarding options to get you in the right hearing aids. The worst thing you can do is put the hearing aids in a drawer and forget about them. There is a solution for everyone, but it is up to you to advocate for yourself and your hearing needs.

Hearing Aid Fitting FAQ
Your initial fitting appointment is typically 60 minutes. During this visit, your audiologist programs the hearing aids based on your hearing evaluation results and sets them to a comfortable starting level. Follow-up visits for adjustments are usually 30 minutes each.
Real-Ear Measurement (REM) uses a tiny probe microphone placed in your ear canal alongside the hearing aid to verify that the device delivers the exact amplification prescribed for your hearing loss. Without REM, a fitting relies on averages rather than your actual ear acoustics. It is the gold standard for hearing aid verification and a standard part of every fitting at Golden Ears Audiology.
Bring a family member or close friend if possible—their familiar voice helps during initial sound quality checks. Also bring your insurance information and any questions about daily use, care, or hearing aid features.
Golden Ears Audiology offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If adjustments don't resolve your concerns during the trial period, talk to your audiologist about alternatives. With access to hearing aids from six manufacturers, there is a solution for every hearing profile and lifestyle.
